How to change your VPN location
A VPN location is the country of the server your traffic goes through. Sites see that server’s address, so they treat you as a visitor from its country.
In Desert Connect
- On the main screen, tap the location row under the connect button.
- Choose a country from the list, or Smart choice: the app picks among the locations that respond on your network.
- If the VPN is on, the app switches to the new location. If it is off, tap the button to connect.
The list updates by itself. To update it now, tap Refresh location list at the top of the list.
If the location you chose stops responding, the app may keep you online through another one and show Connected via another location. To try your choice again, reconnect.
Which location to choose
- Nearer is usually faster: the traffic travels a shorter way.
- For a service available only in some countries, choose one of those countries.
- If a location does not connect from your network, try another: some networks restrict connections to particular servers.
Why a site still shows your own region
The address is only one of the signals a service uses.
- Your account. A signed-in service may use the country set in your account.
- Saved data. Sites remember the region in cookies. Open the site in a private window or clear its data.
- Location services. Apps with access to location use GPS and nearby networks; a VPN does not change that.
- Your store and payment country. App stores and subscriptions follow your account’s country, not the VPN.
